Love and Let Live

Is there more that brings us together than divides us? And what happens if the thing we call God is love? I don't know. I never will. Let's ask anyway.

What is this? ↓
What This Is

A podcast about what people believe, and why.

Not a show that tells you what it found. A show that admits it hasn't — and goes looking anyway, one tradition at a time, asking the people who hold them what it actually looks like from the inside.

It's built on two questions, and it doesn't answer either of them:

Is there more that brings us together than divides us?
And what happens if the thing we call God is love?

The plan is to follow those two as far as they go — through Christianity, through every other tradition and worldview on the map, and straight into the places that seem to refuse them. Nobody is being argued with, and nobody is being converted. The point is to understand what someone believes well enough that they'd recognise themselves in the description.

Where it's up to: the first episodes are being recorded now, and nothing has been released yet. What's finished — and what's worth coming here for today — is the map.

Open Now

Find where you're standing.

The show isn't a straight line, so it doesn't live on one. It lives on a map — a marker for every tradition and worldview this work passes through, and roads drawn between them wherever a question connects two.

Pick the point that's closest to where you already stand. The world turns to face it, and the roads out of it light up — each one labelled with the thread it shares with somewhere else. It takes about a minute, and there's no wrong place to start.

Why It's Made This Way

The one thing held without qualification.

"No man knows the truth, and no man will, this side of death. Not this host. Not any tradition examined on this show."
From the Opening Credo

Most shows about God open by telling you what they found. This one opens by admitting it hasn't, and that it isn't going to. That isn't modesty or a hedge — it's the ground rule the whole thing is built on, and everything said afterwards can be measured against it.

Which means this show will get things wrong, out loud, on the record. Not as an accident to be apologised for later — as the expected condition of asking questions nobody can answer. When it happens, say so: hello@loveandletlive.com. Being corrected is the show working, not the show failing.

There's more of the reasoning, and where it came from, on the About page.

What's Coming

The opening run

The first several episodes are already laid out — the background, and the ground everything after it stands on. Nothing is released yet. These are the two being made now.

01
Terms and Conditions
Every other podcast about God tells you what it found. This one opens by admitting it hasn't. Ground rules, and the two questions. No refunds.

02
The Most Important Meal of the Day
The dark years, and two kids who wanted breakfast on an entirely unremarkable morning. One Tuesday, no revelations.

The rest of the opening run carries on from there — the long stretch of searching that followed, what came out of it, and how all of it arrived where it stands today. Only once that groundwork is down does the map open properly, and from that point where the show goes next stops being entirely up to me.
