In Ōtsuchi, Japan, there's a phone box in a garden with a disconnected rotary phone in it. People go there to say things to the dead. Nobody is on the other end, and that is the point — it's easier to say something true when nothing is going to answer back.

Nothing comes back. No reply, no follow-up, nothing to check later. Questions left here get read, and some may be read aloud one day — never with a name on them, because there isn't one to use. No name, no email, no account, nothing that points back to you. I have no way of knowing who you are, and I'd rather keep it that way.
